ப³லஸமேதப³லானுக³தோ ப⁴வான் புரமகா³ஹத பீ⁴ஷ்மகமானித: ।
த்³விஜஸுதம் த்வது³பாக³மவாதி³னம் த்⁴ருதரஸா தரஸா ப்ரணனாம ஸா ॥1॥
Meaning
ப³ல-ஸமேத- - along with an army; ப³ல-அனுக³த: - by Balaraam followed; ப⁴வான் - (were) Thou; புரம்-அகா³ஹத - the city of (Kundina) entered; பீ⁴ஷ்மக-மானித: - Bhishmaka honoured (Thee and Balaraam); த்³விஜ-ஸுதம் - to the Braahmin boy; த்வத்-உபாக³ம-வாதி³னம் - who Thy coming had announced; த்⁴ருதரஸா தரஸா - with joy at once; ப்ரணனாம ஸா - prostrated she (Rukmini);
Translation
Thou were respectfully received along with Balaraam who had followed Thee with an army, by king Bhishmaka, as Thou entered the city of Kundina. Rukmini at once honoured the Braahmin boy with salutations who gave her the news of Thy arrival in the city.
ஶ்லோக:
பு⁴வனகாந்தமவேக்ஷ்ய ப⁴வத்³வபுர்ன்ருபஸுதஸ்ய நிஶம்ய ச சேஷ்டிதம் ।
விபுலகே²தஜ³ுஷாம் புரவாஸினாம் ஸருதி³தைருதி³தைரக³மன்னிஶா ॥2॥
Meaning
பு⁴வன-காந்தம்-அவேக்ஷ்ய - in the world most beautiful (Thee) seeing; ப⁴வத்-வபு:- - Thy form; ந்ருப-ஸுதஸ்ய - the king's son's (Rukmi's); நிஶம்ய ச சேஷ்டிதம் - hearing the effort; விபுல-கே²த-³ஜுஷாம் - great sorrow overcome with; புர-வாஸினாம் - the public (of Kundina); ஸருதி³தை:-உதி³தை:- - with tears speaking about; அக³மத்-னிஶா - spent the night;
Translation
The public of Kundina saw Thy most beautiful form in the world, and heard about the ill effort of Rukmi, the king's son. They were smitten with great sorrow with the state of affairs in the city and spent a sleepless night sadly and tearfully talking about it all.
ஶ்லோக:
தத³னு வந்தி³துமிந்து³முகீ² ஶிவாம் விஹிதமங்க³லபூ⁴ஷணபா⁴ஸுரா ।
நிரக³மத் ப⁴வத³ர்பிதஜீவிதா ஸ்வபுரத: புரத: ஸுப⁴டாவ்ருதா ॥3॥
Meaning
தத³னு வந்தி³தும்- - then to worship; இந்து³முகீ² ஶிவாம் - the moon faced (Rukmini), Paarvati; விஹித-மங்க³ல- - adorning auspicious; பூ⁴ஷண-பா⁴ஸுரா - ornaments (and attire) shining; நிரக³மத் - came out; ப⁴வத்-அர்பித-ஜீவிதா - to Thee having dedicated her life; ஸ்வபுரத: புரத: - of her chambers, in front; ஸுப⁴ட-ஆவ்ருதா - by guards surrounded;
Translation
Then, the next morning, the moon faced beauty Rukmini, who had already dedicated her life to Thee, came out of her chambers to worship Paarvati. She was bedecked with auspicious ornaments and attire and was well surrounded by the guards.
ஶ்லோக:
குலவதூ⁴பி⁴ருபேத்ய குமாரிகா கி³ரிஸுதாம் பரிபூஜ்ய ச ஸாத³ரம் ।
முஹுரயாசத தத்பத³பங்கஜே நிபதிதா பதிதாம் தவ கேவலம் ॥4॥
Meaning
குல-வது⁴பி⁴:-உபேத்ய - with the noble women reaching; குமாரிகா - the princess; கி³ரிஸுதாம் பரிபூஜ்ய - Paarvati worshipped with fervour; ச ஸாத³ரம் - and with reverence; முஹு:-அயாசத - again and again prayed; தத்-பத-³பங்கஜே - on her lotus feet; நிபதிதா - prostrating; பதிதாம் தவ கேவலம் - as husband Thee only;
Translation
The princess reached the temple of goddess Paarvati in the company of noble women. With great reverence and fervour she worshipped the goddess and prostrated at her feet praying again and again that Thou alone be her husband.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸமவலோககுதூஹலஸங்குலே ந்ருபகுலே நிப்⁴ருதம் த்வயி ச ஸ்தி²தே ।
ந்ருபஸுதா நிரகா³த்³கி³ரிஜாலயாத் ஸுருசிரம் ருசிரஞ்ஜிததி³ங்முகா² ॥5॥
Meaning
ஸமவலோக- - the sight (of Rukmini); குதூஹல-ஸங்குலே - expecting (to see) joyfully gathered; ந்ருப-குலே - the assembly of kings; நிப்⁴ருதம் த்வயி - silently aloof when Thou; ச ஸ்தி²தே - and were standing; ந்ருப-ஸுதா நிரகா³த்- - the princess came out; கி³ரிஜா-ஆலயாத் - from goddess Paarvati's temple; ஸுருசிரம் - in a charming manner; ருசிர-ரஞ்ஜித- - brilliantly lighting; தி³க்-முகா² - the quarters;
Translation
The assembly of kings had gathered joyfully with the expectation to see Rukmini. Thou stood among them in a silently aloof manner. Just then the princess came out of the temple of goddess Paarvati, in a charming manner causing the quarters to light up with her brilliance.
ஶ்லோக:
பு⁴வனமோஹனரூபருசா ததா³ விவஶிதாகி²லராஜகத³ம்ப³யா ।
த்வமபி தே³வ கடாக்ஷவிமோக்ஷணை: ப்ரமத³யா மத³யாஞ்சக்ருஷே மனாக் ॥6॥
Meaning
பு⁴வன-மோஹன- - the world enchanting; ரூப-ருசா ததா³ - beauty enthralling then; விவஶித-அகி²ல- - bewitched the entire; ராஜ-கத³ம்ப³யா - king's assembly; த்வம்-அபி தே³வ - Thou also O Lord!; கடாக்ஷ-விமோக்ஷணை: - by sidelong glances casting; ப்ரமத³யா - by the enchanting one (Rukmini); மத³யான்-சக்ருஷே - were enchanted; மனாக் - somewhat;
Translation
Then the enthralling beauty Rukmini bewitched the entire assembly of kings gathered there. Thou also, O Lord! Were somewhat enchanted by her as she cast her sidelong glances.
ஶ்லோக:
க்வனு க³மிஷ்யஸி சந்த்³ரமுகீ²தி தாம் ஸரஸமேத்ய கரேண ஹரன் க்ஷணாத் ।
ஸமதி⁴ரோப்ய ரத²ம் த்வமபாஹ்ருதா² பு⁴வி ததோ விததோ நினதோ³ த்³விஷாம் ॥7॥
Meaning
க்வனு க³மிஷ்யஸி - where indeed are you going; சந்த்³ரமுகீ²-இதி - O Moon faced one! Thus; தாம் ஸரஸம்-ஏத்ய - her quickly reaching; கரேண ஹரன் க்ஷணாத் - by hand leading away instantly; ஸமதி⁴ரோப்ய ரத²ம் - helping her in the chariot; த்வம்-அபாஹ்ருதா² - Thou carried away; பு⁴வி தத: விதத: - all over the earth then spreading; நினத:³ த்³விஷாம் - loud protest among the enemies;
Translation
Addressing her admiringly, Thou asked her, 'O moon-faced one! where indeed are you going?' Thou hastily reached her and holding her by her arm Thou led her to the chariot and helping her in it, Thou carried her away. Whereupon there spread a loud protest among Thy rivals.
ஶ்லோக:
க்வ நு க³த: பஶுபால இதி க்ருதா⁴ க்ருதரணா யது³பி⁴ஶ்ச ஜிதா ந்ருபா: ।
ந து ப⁴வானுத³சால்யத தைரஹோ பிஶுனகை: ஶுனகைரிவ கேஸரீ ॥8॥
Meaning
க்வ நு க³த: - where indeed has he gone; பஶுபால இதி - the cowherd, thus; க்ருதா⁴ க்ருதரணா - enraged (and) fighting; யது³பி⁴:-ச - by the Yadus, and; ஜிதா:-ன்ருபா: - won over, the kings; ந து ப⁴வான்- - not indeed Thou; உத³சால்யத - were to be swayed; தை:-அஹோ - by them, O what a wonder!; பிஶுனகை: - the wicked ones; ஶுனகை:-இவ கேஸரீ - by dogs, just as, the lion;
Translation
Where indeed has he gone, the cowherd?' Thus the enraged kings shouted and put up a fight. They were defeated by the Yaadavas. O what a wonder! Thou were not swayed in the least by the wicked ones, just as the lion is not swayed by the barking of the dogs.
ஶ்லோக:
தத³னு ருக்மிணமாக³தமாஹவே வத⁴முபேக்ஷ்ய நிப³த்⁴ய விரூபயன் ।
ஹ்ருதமத³ம் பரிமுச்ய ப³லோக்திபி⁴: புரமயா ரமயா ஸஹ காந்தயா ॥9॥
Meaning
தத³னு ருக்மிணம்- - thereafter Rukmi; ஆக³தம்-ஆஹவே - (who had) come for battle; வத⁴ம்-உபேக்ஷ்ய - to kill refraining; நிப³த்⁴ய விரூபயன் - binding and disfiguring (him); ஹ்ருத-மத³ம் - humbling (his) pride; பரிமுச்ய - (then) releasing (him); ப³ல-உக்திபி⁴: - by Balaraam's direction; புரம்-அயா: - came to town; ரமயா ஸஹ காந்தயா - with Ramaa (Thy) wife (Rukmini);
Translation
Rukmi then came to battle with Thee. Refraining to kill him, Thou bound him and disfigured him and thus humbled his pride. At the instance of Balaraama Thou released him of his bondage and returned to Thy city Dwaarkaa with Thy wife Rukmini who was Ramaa (Laxmi) herself.
ஶ்லோக:
நவஸமாக³மலஜ்ஜிதமானஸாம் ப்ரணயகௌதுகஜ்ரும்பி⁴தமன்மதா²ம் ।
அரமய: க²லு நாத² யதா²ஸுக²ம் ரஹஸி தாம் ஹஸிதாம்ஶுலஸன்முகீ²ம் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
நவ-ஸமாகம³ - newness of being with her husband; லஜ்ஜித-மானஸாம் - with a shy mind; ப்ரணய-கௌதுக- - love and joy; ஜ்ரும்பி⁴த-மன்மதா²ம் - increasing the passion; அரமய: க²லு - sported (Thou) indeed; நாத² - O Lord!; யதா²-ஸுக²ம் - so as to (make her) happy; ரஹஸி தாம் - in private, her; ஹஸித-அம்ஶுல-ஸன்முகீ²ம் - smile rays brightening her face;
Translation
Rukmini was shyly caught between the new experience of being with her husband and the increased passion caused by the joy of experiencing love. O Lord! Thou sported with her in privacy so as to delight her whose face was beaming with the rays of her smile.
ஶ்லோக:
விவித⁴னர்மபி⁴ரேவமஹர்னிஶம் ப்ரமத³மாகலயன் புனரேகதா³ ।
ருஜுமதே: கில வக்ரகி³ரா ப⁴வான் வரதனோரதனோத³திலோலதாம் ॥11॥
Meaning
விவித-⁴னர்மபி⁴:- - by various jokes; ஏவம்-அஹ:-னிஶம் - thus day and night; ப்ரமத³ம்-ஆகலயன் - delight creating; புன:-ஏகதா³ - again one day; ருஜு-மதே: - simple minded (her); கில வக்ர-கி³ரா - certainly with doubtful words; ப⁴வான் - Thou; வர-தனோ:-அதனோத்- - for the beautiful one created; அதி-லோலதாம் - severe agitation;
Translation
Day and night Thou delighted the beautiful Rukmini by various jokes and pleasant talks. Then one day, by Thy doubtful words the simple minded one was very much agitated.
ஶ்லோக:
தத³தி⁴கைரத² லாலனகௌஶலை: ப்ரணயினீமதி⁴கம் ஸுக²யன்னிமாம் ।
அயி முகுந்த³ ப⁴வச்சரிதானி ந: ப்ரக³த³தாம் க³த³தாந்திமபாகுரு ॥12॥
Meaning
தத்-அதி⁴கை:-அத² - then more than before; லாலன-கௌஶலை: - by affection expertises; ப்ரணயினீம்-அதி⁴கம் - the beloved, evermore; ஸுக²யன்-இமாம் - delighting her; அயி முகுந்த³ - O Bestower of liberation!; ப⁴வத்-சரிதானி - Thy excellences; ந: ப்ரக³த³தாம் - we narrating; க³த-³தாந்திம்-அபாகுரு - (our) disease causing sufferings do remove;
Translation
More than ever before by Thy affectionate expertises Thou delighted this Thy beloved even more. O Bestower of Liberation! Liberate me from the sufferings caused by the disease, who is always narrating Thy excellences.
