ராமஸக:² க்வாபி தி³னே காமத³ ப⁴க³வன் க³தோ ப⁴வான் விபினம் ।
ஸூனுபி⁴ரபி கோ³பானாம் தே⁴னுபி⁴ரபி⁴ஸம்வ்ருதோ லஸத்³வேஷ: ॥1॥
Meaning
ராமஸக:² - in Balaraama's company; க்வாபி தி³னே - one day; காமத³ ப⁴க³வன் - Thou the fulfiller of wishes, O Lord!; க³த: ப⁴வான் - went Thee; விபினம் - to the forest; ஸூனுபி⁴:-அபி - with the sons,also; கோ³பானாம் - of the Gopas; தே⁴னுபி⁴:-அபி⁴ஸம்வ்ருத: - (and) by the cows surrounded; லஸத்-வேஷ: - in a bedecked attire;
Translation
O Lord! Thou the fulfiller of wishes, one day in a bedecked attire, with Balaraama, went to the forest. The sons of the Gopas and the cows also surrounded and followed Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸந்த³ர்ஶயன் ப³லாய ஸ்வைரம் வ்ருந்தா³வனஶ்ரியம் விமலாம் ।
காண்டீ³ரை: ஸஹ பா³லைர்பா⁴ண்டீ³ரகமாக³மோ வடம் க்ரீட³ன் ॥2॥
Meaning
ஸந்த³ர்ஶயன் - showing around; ப³லாய ஸ்வைரம் - to Balaraama joyfully; வ்ருந்தா³வன-ஶ்ரியம் - the beauty of Vrindaavana; விமலாம் - (which was so) pure; காண்டீ³ரை: ஸஹ - with sticks (carrying); பா³லை:- - (with) the children (Thou reached); பா⁴ண்டீ³ரகம்- - (the tree named) Bhaandeeraka; ஆக³ம: - reached; வடம் க்ரீட³ன் - the tree, playing;
Translation
Joyfully showing around the unspoilt pure beauty of Vrindaavana to Balaraama, accompanied by the cowherd boys, carrying a staff in a playful mood, Thou reached the banyan tree called Bhaandeeraka.
ஶ்லோக:
தாவத்தாவகனித⁴னஸ்ப்ருஹயாலுர்கோ³பமூர்திரத³யாலு: ।
தை³த்ய: ப்ரலம்ப³னாமா ப்ரலம்ப³பா³ஹும் ப⁴வந்தமாபேதே³ ॥3॥
Meaning
தாவத்- - then; தாவக-னித⁴ன- - Thy death; ஸ்ப்ருஹயாலு:-கோ³பமூர்தி: - desiring, in the disguise of a Gopa; அத³யாலு: தை³த்ய: - a pitiless demon; ப்ரலம்ப-³னாமா - Pralamba named; ப்ரலம்ப-³பா³ஹும் ப⁴வந்தம்- - the long armed Thee; ஆபேதே³ - approached;
Translation
Then, the pitiless demon, approached Thee in the disguise of a Gopa, desiring to kill Thee, who are with long arms.
ஶ்லோக:
ஜானந்னப்யவிஜானந்னிவ தேன ஸமம் நிப³த்³த⁴ஸௌஹார்த:³ ।
வடனிகடே படுபஶுபவ்யாப³த்³த⁴ம் த்³வந்த்³வயுத்³த⁴மாரப்³தா⁴: ॥4॥
Meaning
ஜானந்-அபி - knowing though; அவிஜானந்-இவ - not knowing as though; தேன ஸமம் - with him; நிப³த்³த-⁴ஸௌஹார்த:³ - cultivating friendship; வட-னிகடே - near the banyan tree; படு-பஶுப- - by skilled cowherd boys; வ்யாப³த்³த⁴ம் - formed; த்³வந்த்³வ-யுத்³த⁴ம்- - wrestling; ஆரப்³தா⁴: - started (Thee);
Translation
In spite of knowing fully well of his intention, seemingly unaware of his designs, Thou cultivated friendship with him. Then near the banyan tree, arranging the game of wrestling with the cowherd boys who were skilled in that art, Thou started a duel.
ஶ்லோக:
கோ³பான் விபஜ⁴்ய தன்வன் ஸங்க⁴ம் ப³லப⁴த்³ரகம் ப⁴வத்கமபி ।
த்வத்³ப³லபீ⁴ரும் தை³த்யம் த்வத்³ப³லக³தமன்வமன்யதா² ப⁴க³வன் ॥5॥
Meaning
கோ³பான் விபஜ⁴்ய - the cowherd boys dividing; தன்வன் ஸங்க⁴ம் - into two teams; ப³லப⁴த்³ரகம் - of Balaraama; ப⁴வத்கம்-அபி - and of Thee also; த்வத்-ப³ல-பீ⁴ரும் - Thy strength afraid of; தை³த்யம் - the demon; த்வத்³-ப³ல-க³தம்- - in Thy team joining; அன்வமன்யதா² - (Thou) agreed; ப⁴க³வன் - O Lord!;
Translation
O Lord! Thou divided the cowherd boys into two teams led by Balaraama and Thyself. The Asura was aware of Thy strength and being afraid wanted to join Thy team, to which Thou agreed.
ஶ்லோக:
கல்பிதவிஜேத்ருவஹனே ஸமரே பரயூத²க³ம் ஸ்வத³யிததரம் ।
ஶ்ரீதா³மானமத⁴த்தா²: பராஜிதோ ப⁴க்ததா³ஸதாம் ப்ரத²யன் ॥6॥
Meaning
கல்பித- - as per rules (arranged); விஜேத்ரு-வஹனே - the victorious be carried; ஸமரே பரயூத²க³ம் - in the fight, by one of the other team; ஸ்வத³யிததரம் - very dear to Thee; ஶ்ரீதா³மானம்- - Shridaamaa; அத⁴த்தா²: பராஜித: - Thou carried, (Thou) being defeated; ப⁴க்த-தா³ஸதாம் - (Thou) as a servant of Thy devotees; ப்ரத²யன் - establishing /demonstrating;
Translation
As per the rules of the game, as was arranged, the victor is to be carried by the vanquished. Thou being defeated, Thou carried the very dear friend Shreedaamaa, there by demonstrating to the world that Thou are at the service of Thy devotees.
ஶ்லோக:
ஏவம் ப³ஹுஷு விபூ⁴மன் பா³லேஷு வஹத்ஸு வாஹ்யமானேஷு ।
ராமவிஜித: ப்ரலம்போ³ ஜஹார தம் தூ³ரதோ ப⁴வத்³பீ⁴த்யா ॥7॥
Meaning
ஏவம் ப³ஹுஷு - thus in many; விபூ⁴மன் - O Infinite One!; பா³லேஷு வஹத்ஸு - when the children were carrying; வாஹ்யமானேஷு - and were being carried; ராம-விஜித: - by Balaraama defeated; ப்ரலம்ப:³ ஜஹார தம் - Pralamba (the demon), took him; தூ³ரத: ப⁴வத்-பீ⁴த்யா - far away for Thy fear;
Translation
Thus the many cowherd boys were carrying and were being carried. In the course, Pralamba was defeated by Balaraama and so he carried Balaraama far away from Thy sight out of fear of Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
த்வத்³தூ³ரம் க³மயந்தம் தம் த்³ருஷ்ட்வா ஹலினி விஹிதக³ரிமப⁴ரே ।
தை³த்ய: ஸ்வரூபமாகா³த்³யத்³ரூபாத் ஸ ஹி ப³லோபி சகிதோபூ⁴த் ॥8॥
Meaning
த்வத்-தூ³ரம் க³மயந்தம் - from Thee far going; தம் த்³ருஷ்ட்வா ஹலினி - seeing him when Balaraama; விஹித-க³ரிம-ப⁴ரே - took on increased weight; தை³த்ய: ஸ்வரூபம்- - the demon to his own form; ஆகா³த்-யத்-ரூபாத் - went to by which form; ஸ ஹி ப³ல:-அபி - he indeed Balaraama also; சகித:-அபூ⁴த் - wonderstruck became;
Translation
Balaraama saw that he was being carried far away, so he increased his weight by his divine power. The demon then took to his own real form, seeing which even Balaraam was wonderstruck.
ஶ்லோக:
உச்சதயா தை³த்யதனோஸ்த்வன்முக²மாலோக்ய தூ³ரதோ ராம: ।
விக³தப⁴யோ த்³ருட⁴முஷ்ட்யா ப்⁴ருஶது³ஷ்டம் ஸபதி³ பிஷ்டவானேனம் ॥9॥
Meaning
உச்சதயா தை³த்ய-தனோ:- - because of the height of the Asura's body; த்வத்-முக²ம்- - Thy face; ஆலோக்ய - seeing; தூ³ரத: ராம: - from a distance, Balaraam; விக³த-ப⁴ய: - overcoming the fear; த்³ருட-⁴முஷ்ட்யா - by a fierce fist; ப்⁴ருஶ-து³ஷ்டம் ஸபதி³ - the extremely wicked (him), quickly; பிஷ்ட்வான் ஏனம் - crushed him;
Translation
The Asura's height was great and so being carried on his shoulder, Balaraam could see Thee from a distance. At Thy sight Balaraam shunned all fear and with a firm fist struck the demon and quickly crushed him to a pulp.
ஶ்லோக:
ஹத்வா தா³னவவீரம் ப்ராப்தம் ப³லமாலிலிங்கி³த² ப்ரேம்ணா ।
தாவன்மிலதோர்யுவயோ: ஶிரஸி க்ருதா புஷ்பவ்ருஷ்டிரமரக³ணை: ॥1௦॥
Meaning
ஹத்வா தா³னவ-வீரம் - killing the clever Asura; ப்ராப்தம் ப³லம்- - returned Balaraam; ஆலிலிங்கி³த² - (Thou) embraced; ப்ரேம்ணா தாவத- - lovingly, at that time; மிலதோ:-யுவயோ: - when Thou two were meeting; ஶிரஸி க்ருதா - on Thy heads was done; புஷ்பவ்ருஷ்டி:- - flower showering; அமர-க³ணை: - by the gods/ devas;
Translation
Balaraama returned after killing the clever Asura and Thou embraced him lovingly. As Thou two were meeting the gods and devas showered flowers on Thy heads.
ஶ்லோக:
ஆலம்போ³ பு⁴வனானாம் ப்ராலம்ப³ம் நித⁴னமேவமாரசயன் ।
காலம் விஹாய ஸத்³யோ லோலம்ப³ருசே ஹரே ஹரே: க்லேஶான் ॥11॥
Meaning
ஆலம்ப:³ பு⁴வனானாம் - the support of the worlds; ப்ராலம்ப³ம் நித⁴னம்- - Pralambaasura's killing; ஏவம்-ஆரசயன் - carrying out; காலம் விஹாய - without delay; ஸத்³ய: - quickly; லோலம்ப³ருசே - a black bee like splendorous; ஹரே - O Hari; ஹரே: - eradicate; க்லேஶான் - my sufferings;
Translation
O Hari! Thou who has the splendour of a black bee, who are the support of the worlds, Thou who carried out the destruction of Pralambaasura, without delay, quickly eradicate my sufferings.
