கம்ஸோத² நாரத³கி³ரா வ்ரஜவாஸினம் த்வா-
மாகர்ண்ய தீ³ர்ணஹ்ருத³ய: ஸ ஹி கா³ந்தி³னேயம் ।
ஆஹூய கார்முகமக²ச்ச²லதோ ப⁴வந்த-
மானேதுமேனமஹினோத³ஹினாத²ஶாயின் ॥1॥
Meaning
கம்ஸ:-அத² - Kansa then; நாரத-³கி³ரா - from Naarada's speech; வ்ரஜவாஸினம் த்வாம் - (who was) residing in Vraja, Thee; ஆகர்ண்ய - hearing (to be Naaraayana); தீ³ர்ண-ஹ்ருத³ய: - with a fearful heart; ஸ ஹி - he (Kansa) indeed; கா³ந்தி³னேயம் - the son of Gaandini (Akrura); ஆஹூய - called; கார்முக-மக:²-ச²லத: - (and in) the bow festival (sacrifice) pretext; ப⁴வந்தம்-ஆனேதும்- - Thee to bring; ஏனம்-அஹினோத்- - him (Akrura) sent; அஹினாத²ஶாயின் - O Lord resting on the king of serpents;
Translation
Then when Kansa came to know from Naarada that, Thou, O Lord! resting on the serpent king! Were residing in Vraja, his heart was full of fear. He called for Akrur, the son of Gaandini, and sent him for Thee under the pretext of inviting Thee to witness the bow worshipping festival.

அக்ரூர ஏஷ ப⁴வத³ங்க்⁴ரிபரஶ்சிராய
த்வத்³த³ர்ஶனாக்ஷமமனா: க்ஷிதிபாலபீ⁴த்யா ।
தஸ்யாஜ்ஞயைவ புனரீக்ஷிதுமுத்³யதஸ்த்வா-
மானந்த³பா⁴ரமதிபூ⁴ரிதரம் ப³பா⁴ர ॥2॥
Meaning
அக்ரூர ஏஷ - this Akrura; ப⁴வத்-அங்க்⁴ரி-பர:- - Thy feet devoted to; சிராய - since long; த்வத்-த³ர்ஶன-அக்ஷம-மனா: - Thy seeing impossible, thinking; க்ஷிதிபால-பீ⁴த்யா - because of the king's (Kansa's) fear; தஸ்ய-ஆஜ்ஞயா-ஏவ - by his (king's) orders only; புன:- - again; ஈக்ஷிதும்-உத்³யத:-த்வாம்- - to see (Thee) preparing, Thee; ஆனந்த-³பா⁴ரம்-அதி- - with the joy full and intense; பூ⁴ரிதரம் - very highly; ப³பா⁴ர - felt;
Translation
This Akrura for long was Thy devotee. Owing to the fear of Kansa he felt it was impossible to see Thee. Now he was overwhelmed with intense joy when by the order of the king himself he was preparing to see and meet Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸோயம் ரதே²ன ஸுக்ருதீ ப⁴வதோ நிவாஸம்
க³ச்ச²ன் மனோரத²க³ணாம்ஸ்த்வயி தா⁴ர்யமாணான் ।
ஆஸ்வாத³யன் முஹுரபாயப⁴யேன தை³வம்
ஸம்ப்ரார்த²யன் பதி² ந கிஞ்சித³பி வ்யஜானாத் ॥3॥
Meaning
ஸ-அயம் - he this; ரதே²ன - by a chariot; ஸுக்ருதீ - the doer of meritorious deeds; ப⁴வத: நிவாஸம் - to Thy abode; க³ச்ச²ன் - (while) going; மனோரத-²க³ணான்- - thoughts innumerable; த்வயி தா⁴ர்யமாணான் - in Thee placing; ஆஸ்வாத³யன் முஹு:- - (and) experiencing again and again; அபாய-ப⁴யேன தை³வம் - obstacles fear, to God; ஸம்ப்ரார்த²யன் பதி² - fervently praying, on the way; ந கிஞ்சித்-அபி - did not anything at all; வ்யஜானத் - notice;
Translation
This doer of meritorious deed, Akrura, travelled in a chariot to Thy abode. On the way his innumerable thoughts were centered around Thee and so he again and again experienced Thy presence. He feared and fervently prayed for the removal of all possible obstacles to this meeting with Thee and so he did not notice anything on the way.
ஶ்லோக:
த்³ரக்ஷ்யாமி வேத³ஶதகீ³தக³திம் புமாம்ஸம்
ஸ்ப்ரக்ஷ்யாமி கிம்ஸ்வித³பி நாம பரிஷ்வஜேயம் ।
கிம் வக்ஷ்யதே ஸ க²லு மாம் க்வனு வீக்ஷித: ஸ்யா-
தி³த்த²ம் நினாய ஸ ப⁴வன்மயமேவ மார்க³ம் ॥4॥
Meaning
த்³ரக்ஷ்யாமி - will see; வேத-³ஶத-கீ³த-க³திம் - in the Vedas (of whom) hundreds of hymns (are sung) that goal; புமாம்ஸம் - the Great One; ஸ்ப்ரக்ஷ்யாமி - will touch; கிம்ஸ்வித்-அபி - slightly even; நாம பரிஷ்வஜேயம் - will at all embrace; கிம் வக்ஷ்யதே - what will he say; ஸ க²லு மாம் - he indeed to me; க்வனு வீக்ஷித: ஸ்யாத் - where seen will he be; இத்த²ம் நினாய - in this manner, carrying along; ஸ ப⁴வன்மயம்-ஏவ - he (Akrura) immersed in Thee only; மார்க³ம் - in the way (went);
Translation
All along the way he was immersed in Thy thoughts alone - 'Shall I be blessed to meet the Supreme Being who is the subject of all Vedic hymns? Will I be able to touch him even slightly? Will he embrace me? What will he say to me? Where will I see him?' He went along the way thinking in this manner.
ஶ்லோக:
பூ⁴ய: க்ரமாத³பி⁴விஶன் ப⁴வத³ங்க்⁴ரிபூதம்
வ்ருந்தா³வனம் ஹரவிரிஞ்சஸுராபி⁴வந்த்³யம் ।
ஆனந்த³மக்³ன இவ லக்³ன இவ ப்ரமோஹே
கிம் கிம் த³ஶாந்தரமவாப ந பங்கஜாக்ஷ ॥5॥
Meaning
பூ⁴ய: க்ரமாத்- - again gradually; அபி⁴விஶன் - entering; ப⁴வத்-அங்க்⁴ரி-பூதம் - by Thy feet purified; வ்ருந்தா³வனம் - Vrindaavana; ஹர்-விரிஞ்ச-ஸுர- - by Shiva Brahma and other gods; அபி⁴வந்த்³யம் - honoured; ஆனந்த-³மக்³ன இவ - in bliss immersed as if; லக்³ன இவ ப்ரமோஹே - under as if a spell; கிம் கிம் - what what; த³ஶாந்தரம்- - states (of ecstasy); அவாப ந - attain not (he); பங்கஜாக்ஷ - O Lotus Eyed One!;
Translation
O Lotus Eyed One! He gradually entered Vrindaavana which is sanctified by Thy feet and revered by Shiva, Brahma and other gods. As Akrura approached Vrindaavana he was as if immersed in bliss or was under a spell. What states of ecstasy did he not attain!
ஶ்லோக:
பஶ்யன்னவந்த³த ப⁴வத்³விஹ்ருதிஸ்த²லானி
பாம்ஸுஷ்வவேஷ்டத ப⁴வச்சரணாங்கிதேஷு ।
கிம் ப்³ரூமஹே ப³ஹுஜனா ஹி ததா³பி ஜாதா
ஏவம் து ப⁴க்திதரலா விரலா: பராத்மன் ॥6॥
Meaning
பஶ்யன்-அவந்தத³ - seeing, he prostrated; ப⁴வத்-விஹ்ருதி-ஸ்த²லானி - Thy sporting places; பாம்ஸுஷு-அவேஷ்டத - in the dust rolled; ப⁴வத்-சரண-அங்கிதேஷு - by Thy feet (which was) marked; கிம் ப்³ரூமஹே - what shall I say; ப³ஹுஜனா ஹி - many people indeed; ததா³பி ஜாதா - at that time also were born; ஏவம் து - like this, but; ப⁴க்திதரலா: - devotees intense; விரலா: - were few; பராத்மன் - O Lord!;
Translation
O Lord! Coming to the places where Thou sported, he prostrated. He rolled in the dust which had imprints of Thy feet. O what shall I say! His state is beyond description. At that time also many devotees were born but such ardent devotees were few indeed.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸாயம் ஸ கோ³பப⁴வனானி ப⁴வச்சரித்ர-
கீ³தாம்ருதப்ரஸ்ருதகர்ணரஸாயனானி ।
பஶ்யன் ப்ரமோத³ஸரிதேவ கிலோஹ்யமானோ
க³ச்ச²ன் ப⁴வத்³ப⁴வனஸன்னிதி⁴மன்வயாஸீத் ॥7॥
Meaning
ஸாயம் ஸ - at dusk, he (Akrura); கோ³ப-ப⁴வனானி - (from) the Gopa houses; ப⁴வத்-சரித்ர- - Thy doings; கீ³த-அம்ருத-ப்ரஸ்ருத- - sung (like) nectar flowing; கர்ண-ரஸாயனானி - for the ears, feast (like); பஶ்யன் - seeing; ப்ரமோத-³ஸரிதா-இவ - bliss river like; கில-உஹ்யமான: - indeed carried away; க³ச்ச²ன் ப⁴வத்- - going, Thy; ப⁴வன-ஸன்னிதி⁴ம்- - abodes near to; அன்வயாஸீத் - reached;
Translation
Akrura reached the vicinity of Thy residence by dusk. He passed by the houses of the Gopas from where flowed the soothing to the ear, nectar like strains sung about Thy sportive deed. Seeing this he was as though carried away and caught in the current of a river of bliss and spiritual joy.
ஶ்லோக:
தாவத்³த³த³ர்ஶ பஶுதோ³ஹவிலோகலோலம்
ப⁴க்தோத்தமாக³திமிவ ப்ரதிபாலயந்தம் ।
பூ⁴மன் ப⁴வந்தமயமக்³ரஜவந்தமந்த-
ர்ப்³ரஹ்மானுபூ⁴திரஸஸிந்து⁴மிவோத்³வமந்தம் ॥8॥
Meaning
தாவத்-த³த³ர்ஶ - then (he) saw; பஶு-தோ³ஹ- - the cows milked; விலோக-லோலம் - watching eagerly; ப⁴க்த-உத்தம-ஆக³திம்- - the great devotee,s coming; இவ ப்ரதிபாலயந்தம் - as if awaiting; பூ⁴மன் - O Infinite Lord!; ப⁴வந்தம்-அயம்- - Thee, this (Akrura); அக்³ரஜவந்தம்- - with (Thy) elder brother (saw); அந்த:-ப்³ரஹ்ம-அனுபூ⁴தி- - (his own) internal Brahmic experiences'; ரஸ-ஸிந்து⁴ம்-இவ-உத்³வமந்தம் - nectar ocean as if flowing (outwardly);
Translation
O Infinite Lord! Then Akrura saw Thee with Thy elder brother Balaraam, eagerly watching the milking of the cows, and it seemed like Thou were awaiting the arrival of a great devotee (Akrura himself). It was as if Akrura's internal Brahmic experience was flowing outwardly like a nectar ocean personified as Thee.

ஸாயந்தனாப்லவவிஶேஷவிவிக்தகா³த்ரௌ
த்³வௌ பீதனீலருசிராம்ப³ரலோப⁴னீயௌ ।
நாதிப்ரபஞ்சத்⁴ருதபூ⁴ஷணசாருவேஷௌ
மந்த³ஸ்மிதார்த்³ரவத³னௌ ஸ யுவாம் த³த³ர்ஶ ॥9॥
Meaning
ஸாயந்தன-ஆப்லவ - the evening bath; விஶேஷ-விவிக்த- - well cleaned; கா³த்ரௌ த்³வௌ - bodied both (in); பீத-னீல- - yellow and blue; ருசிர-அம்ப³ர- - beautiful garments; லோப⁴னீயௌ - attractive; ந-அதி-ப்ரபஞ்ச- - not very clustered; த்⁴ருத-பூ⁴ஷண - wearing ornaments; சாரு-வேஷௌ - charming appearance; மந்த்³-ஸ்மித- - soft smiling; ஆர்த்³ர-வத³னௌ - gentle faced; ஸ - he (Akrura); யுவாம் த³த³ர்ஶ - Thou two saw;
Translation
Akrura saw Thee and Balaraam, both neat and tidy after the evening bath, dressed in beautiful yellow and blue garments, wearing a few ornaments and looking charming in appearance. A soft smile played on Thy gentle faces.

தூ³ராத்³ரதா²த்ஸமவருஹ்ய நமந்தமேன-
முத்தா²ப்ய ப⁴க்தகுலமௌலிமதோ²பகூ³ஹன் ।
ஹர்ஷான்மிதாக்ஷரகி³ரா குஶலானுயோகீ³
பாணிம் ப்ரக்³ருஹ்ய ஸப³லோத² க்³ருஹம் நினேத² ॥1௦॥
Meaning
தூ³ராத்-ரதா²த்- - from afar, from the chariot; ஸமவருஹ்ய - getting down; நமந்தம்-ஏனம்- - (who was) prostrating, him; உத்தா²ப்ய - lifting up; ப⁴க்தகுல-மௌலிம்- - the devotee clan's crown (Akrura); அத-²உபகூ³ஹன் - then embracing; ஹர்ஷாத்- - joyfully; மித-அக்ஷர-கி³ரா - with few words speech; குஶல-அனுயோகீ³ - welfare enquiring; பாணிம் ப்ரக்³ருஹ்ய - (his) hands taking; ஸப³ல:- அத² - with Balaraam, then; க்³ருஹம் நினேத² - to the house led;
Translation
The crown of the devotees Akrura got down from the chariot. Thou lifted him up in great joy as he prostrated before Thee. Thou embraced him and in a few words enquired about his wellbeing. Holding his hand Thou and Balaraam led him to Thy house.
ஶ்லோக:
நந்தே³ன ஸாகமமிதாத³ரமர்சயித்வா
தம் யாத³வம் தது³தி³தாம் நிஶமய்ய வார்தாம் ।
கோ³பேஷு பூ⁴பதினிதே³ஶகதா²ம் நிவேத்³ய
நானாகதா²பி⁴ரிஹ தேன நிஶாமனைஷீ: ॥11॥
Meaning
நந்தே³ன ஸாகம்- - Nanda, along with (Thou); அதி-ஆத³ரம்- - very respectfully; அர்சயித்வா - honoured; தம் யாத³வம் - him, the Yaadava (Akrura); தத்-உதி³தாம் - by him said; நிஶமய்ய வார்தாம் - hearing the message; கோ³பேஷு - to the Gopas; பூ⁴பதி-னிதே³ஶ-கதா²ம் - the king's command news; நிவேத்³ய - communicating; நானா-கதா²பி⁴:- - by various talks; இஹ தேன - here with him; நிஶாம்-அனைஷீ: - the night (Thou) spend;
Translation
With Nanda Gopa Thou very respectfully honoured the Yaadava Akrura and listened to the message of his mission. Thou communicated to the Gopas about the news of the king's command. That night Thou spent conversing with Akrura on various matters.

சந்த்³ராக்³ருஹே கிமுத சந்த்³ரப⁴கா³க்³ருஹே நு
ராதா⁴க்³ருஹே நு ப⁴வனே கிமு மைத்ரவிந்தே³ ।
தூ⁴ர்தோ விலம்ப³த இதி ப்ரமதா³பி⁴ருச்சை-
ராஶங்கிதோ நிஶி மருத்புரனாத² பாயா: ॥12॥

சந்த்³ரா க்³ருஹே - in Chandraa's house; கிமுத - or; சந்த்³ரப⁴கா³ க்³ருஹே - in Chandrabhaagaa's house; நு - is it so; ராதா⁴ க்³ருஹே நு - or in Raadhaa's house is it; கிமு மைத்ரவிந்தே³ - or in Mitravrindaa's; தூ⁴ர்த: விலம்ப³தே - the rascal (Krishna) is tarrying; இதி ப்ரமதா³பி⁴:- - thus by the ladies; உச்சை: ஆஶங்கித: - greatly suspected; நிஶி - in the night; மருத்புரனாத² - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; பாயா: - protect me;
Translation
That night Thou failed to meet the Gopikas. The ladies suspected that the rascal that Thou were may be tarrying in the house of Chandra, or Chandrabhaagaa, or Raadhaa or Mitravrindaa, in the night. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Protect me.
